Thursday 30 October

Our strawberry plants have grown. The carrots are growing so well that we have had to thin them. We planted out our pumpkin plants, so now we have a pumpkin patch. One of our spinach plants is really, really big!

Tuesday 23 September

We have been planting flowers in our flower bed. A flower bed is not a bed for us to sleep in; it is a place for flowers to grow!
Today we potted the pumpkin seeds that we had been drying.
We have had to water our plants, because it hasn't been raining so much. Miss Craw has been helping us and so have Tania and Ms Keenan.
Our carrot seeds have not come up yet.

Here we are standing around our vegetable bed.

Thursday 11 September

Yesterday we planted some carrot seeds. We planted some rainbow beet plants and some garlic plants that Jackson's mum gave us. The garlic is good, because it helps the other plants by protecting them from bugs (and vampires!)
Here we are standing around our strawberry bed.

It is wet again today. Mrs Cameron has grown us some spinach plants. We will put them in our garden as soon as we can. The rain will give us lots of water for our plants.

Monday 21 July

Just look at our garden today! Over the holidays, Jackson's mum, Jackson, Finn, Saul and Mrs K got busy. Now we are filling our garden with top soil. It is hard work! We got very dirty. But it was fun and exciting.

Friday 4 July

The weather has been cold and rainy. We haven't done anything outside, but we do have lots of seeds. Charlotte's mum gave us some carrot, raddish, beet and broad bean seeds. Jackson's brother Finn, sent us some pumpkin seeds, which Jackson and Sophie washed and we have put them in the window to dry.
Over the holidays Mrs K will shift the sleepers and get some mushroom compost. Jackson and his mum are going to help.

Friday 27 June

We were going to shift the sleepers today, to make our garden surround. But it was too wet to go outside, so we will do it on Monday morning. Earlier this week, we had a huge hail storm and our playing fields turned white. On Monday we went to a cool play at Darfield High School.

Thursday 19 June

We did not do our gardening work yesterday, because we had the four year old Plunket visitors. But we did find out from our plant experiments, that plants need water, food from soil, sun and air to grow. We will need all of these things for our seeds to grow in our garden.

Wednesday 11 June

Today we wrote a list of all the jobs we need to do, to make our garden.
After that, we each drew a plan of the garden, with the plants we would like to grow and eat! We had lots of ideas and the most popular things to plant and grow were carrots, pumpkin and strawberries. We think they will all grow in our garden.

What are we going to do?
We are going to make a garden outside the classroom. We are going to build it by ourselves. Everyone will work together to build and plant our garden. We will have plants in our garden. We will find out how plants grow and what plants will grow in our garden.

Introduction

"Mrs Kennedy would like to plant a garden outside the classroom. Can you help her? Mrs Kennedy needs some help to get started. She wants to find our how plants grow"
